A maximum of 15 people will accompany us on this 11 night fully escorted tour as we travel south from historical Hanoi through the length of fascinating Vietnam, finishing in modern Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon).

This is an adventure full of beauty and contrast that introduces Vietnam as a country of incredible food, stunning scenery and cosmopolitan cities!

Day 1:  12 Mar 2020

Destination: Hanoi

Meals included: None

Arrival Transfer: Included

Xin chao! Welcome to Vietnam! You will be transferred from the airport to your hotel. We'll be collecting insurance details and next of kin information at this meeting, so please ensure you bring these details to provide to your leader. Hanoi is famous for its beautiful lakes, shaded boulevards, verdant public parks and thriving Old Quarter. The latter is a veritable architectural museum piece that feels like a 1930s provincial French town – a great place to explore today if you have time.

Day 2:  13 Mar 2020

Destination: Hanoi – Halong Bay

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Included Activities:  Halong Bay - Overnight boat cruise

Travel by minibus to the spectacular World Heritage-listed site of Halong Bay (approximately 4 hours). The bay is a breathtaking secluded harbor with some 2,000 limestone islands jutting out of the waters of the Bac Bo Gulf. Board your boat and cruise among the dramatic limestone peaks. There's an opportunity to swim in the famous Vietnam East Sea and explore caves filled with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. Spend a peaceful night on board, beneath a sky alive with stars. Your sailing junk has twin-share cabins, air-conditioning and private facilities. There's also a dining room and bar.

Day 3:  14 Mar 2020

Destination: Halong - Hue

Meals included: Breakfast

Return to Hanoi by bus (approximately 3.5 hours). From there you will fly to Hue in the evening.

Day 4:  15 Mar 2020

Destination: Hue

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch

Included Activities: Royal tomb, Perfume River cruise, Thien Mu Pagoda, Motorbike trip including lunch

Today, tour the sights of Hue on the back of a motorbike driven by a local guide. Explore the ruins of the Purple City, once reserved for the personal use of the Emperor and his concubines, but almost totally destroyed during the Vietnam/American War. Visit the 17th-century active Buddhist monastery of Thien Mu Pagoda. During the visit you’ll see the car of a former monk who drove to Saigon in 1963 to set himself alight to protest the poor treatment of Buddhists by the South Vietnamese regime. 

Enjoy a short boat cruise down the Perfume River before eating lunch inside a nunnery. Finally, visit the lakeside royal tomb of Emperor Tu Duc before heading back to Hue.

Notes: This motorbike activity has been assessed for safety and is closely monitored. To participate please ensure your travel insurance covers riding pillion on a motorbike up to 150cc. If you prefer not to participate, please let your leader know and they will arrange car transportation (cost included). 

Boats for the Perfume River trip may not be available if you’re travelling during festival periods. During these times you’ll travel by land to reach the activities instead.

Day 5:  16 Mar 2020

Destination: Hue – Hoi An

Meals included: Breakfast

Included Activities: Imperial citadel

Once the imperial capital of Vietnam, Hue holds the treasures of the country’s royal past. This morning, you’ll visit the war-damaged ruins of the Hue Imperial Citadel complex, which once contained temples, state houses and the emperor’s palace.

Afterward, travelling by bus (approximately 4 hours), head south through coastal rice paddies before traversing the spectacular Hai Van Pass. You'll be treated to some stunning mountain scenery en route. After a brief visit to the beautiful China Beach, arrive at Hoi An.

Day 6:  17 Mar 2020

Destination: Hoi An

Meals included: Breakfast

Included Activities: Cycling to Cam Kim Village, ancient town walk and entrance ticket

Recently declared a World Heritage site, Hoi An and its delicate beauty is being restored and preserved. Known as Faifo to early Western traders, it was one of South-East Asia's major international ports during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Today, parts of it look exactly as they did more than a century ago; it's the sort of place that grows on you the more you explore it.

Start cycling from the hotel, we cross the river of Hoi An by ferry (life jacket available) to reach to Cam Kim island, we cycle around the rice fields and stunning villages. During the ride, we will stop at a local family who is famous of making My Quang - the most popular local noodle in Quang Nam province. we witness their works and also taste the Banh Dap - the tasty local snack. 

We cycle around 12km on the island, not much traffic and very flat. It should be 3 hours for the trip.

Day 7:  18 Mar 2020

Destination: Hoi An – Ho Chi Minh City

Meals included: Breakfast

Included Activities:  Ho Chi Minh City tour and War Remnants Museum

Today take a short early morning flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Formerly known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City has a fascinating history and is arguably Vietnam’s capital of commerce and culture. After landing, check in to your hotel and then take a sightseeing bus tour around the city. Pass the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Opera House, stopping in at the War Remnants Museum to discover some of the sobering stories of the Vietnam/American War.

Day 8:  19 Mar 2020

Destination: Hoi An – Ho Chi Minh City

Meals included: Breakfast, Dinner

Included Activities: Cu Chi tunnels and Vespa Foody Tour

This morning you’ll visit Cu Chi Tunnel. This former Viet Cong stronghold provides an insight into the resourcefulness and tenacity of the Vietnamese people, as well as underground life during the Vietnam War.

In the evening, you’ll explore Saigon differently, seated in the back of an old Vespa to feel the ambiance of Saigon as a Saigonese. After the orientation ride around the most significant monuments of Saigon, you will travel to a spot where you will see Saigon-center from the new developing area. Then get to the most famous areas of Saigon for a local foody-experience.

Day 9:  20 Mar 2020

Destination: Ho Chi Minh City – Mekong Delta

Meals included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

This morning head out on a day trip to explore the Mekong Delta. Board a boat to Ben Tre to visit a coconut candy factory and sample their sweet products. On a tuk-tuk tour around the remote village, learn about local rural life and stop to sample tropical fruits. Eat lunch at a restaurant in the heart of the delta, sampling regional specialties such as the famous Elephant Ear fish. Afterwards, paddle in sampans (small rowing boats) past water coconut trees along the Mekong. After the cruise return via bus to Ho Chi Minh City. 

Enjoy a final group dinner at KOTO restaurant, an organization dedicated to developing the hospitality careers of street kids.
